What is an IoT card?
An IoT card is a 2G/3G/4G communication card provided by a service provider. It has a similar hardware and appearance to a regular SIM card. It is a dedicated SIM card provided by the service provider for IoT purposes, and it comes in two forms: plug-in (MP) cards, which are commonly used in mobile phones, and embedded (MS) cards, which are used in devices with built-in SIM cards (eSIM). IoT cards have dedicated number ranges and are mainly used for data communication.
What is the relationship between APN and SIM card?
- APN corresponds to the service type provided by the service provider for the SIM card. Different APNs provide access to different networks, such as the internet or corporate intranets.
- For a SIM card, each dial-up connection requires the configuration of an APN, in addition to the default bearer. Without the correct APN configuration, the dial-up connection will not be successful.
